NPD reports rash of weekend thefts in Heritage City

Nelson Police is reporting a rash of thefts in the Heritage City during the past weekend.

In a media release Tuesday, NPD said the department is investigating several reported thefts from the weekend, including stolen wildfire water pump, GPS and radio as well as break-in on Front Street.

  • On Saturday, December 1, 2018 members were called to a reported theft from vehicle on Railway Avenue and Silica Street that occurred overnight. A vehicle had its window smashed. A GPS and radio were reportedly stolen from the vehicle.
  • On Sunday, December 2, 2018 members were called to a business in the 600 block of Front Street for a break and enter. The business had been broken into overnight causing several thousand dollars in damage. Suspects were able to steal cash from the business’s office.
  • On Monday, December 3, 2018 two reports were received of fuel being stolen from commercial vehicles in the Nelson area.
  • On Monday, December 3, 2018 a report of a theft from a vehicle was received from a local car dealership. A government vehicle was in for repair and sometime overnight a wild fire water pump was stolen from the vehicle. The pump is a Honda “ Goliath “ model with a government unit number decal displayed on it. The pump is used to fight forest fires and is quite distinctive.

Police are asking anyone with information in regard to the recent thefts they should contact the Nelson Police Department (250-354-3919) or Crimestoppers (1-800-222-TIPS 8477). The public is also encouraged to report any suspicious activity or vehicles to police as soon as possible.
