Vandals damage several parking meters in downtown core

A lot of drivers don’t like parking tickets but vandals took this to the extreme in the downtown core earlier this week.

Between late Saturday (March 2) and early Sunday (March 3) vandals busted into several meters in the areas of Baker and Falls Street and Baker and Josephine Street, causing damage to most.

The cost of repairing the meters is significant and the Nelson Police Department requests anyone with information contact either the Nelson Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
 

Rosemont Church hit with paint

A Church in the Rosemont area was spray painted with profanities sometime during the weekend. 

The Nelson Police Department is investigating and following up with other graffiti files and suspects.
 
Not everyone on board with amenity center upgrades

The recent widening of the sidewalks in the amenity area on Baker Street has some people on the edge.

Nelson Police officers received a call Tuesday (March 5) at 1:30 p.m. of people protesting the upgrades by City of Nelson public works department in the 400 block of Baker Street.

After the Constable discussed the matter with the protesters and the renovations clarified, the protesters agreed to stay well away from the work and no further incidents were reported.
 
Police assist intoxicated teenager

At 4 a.m. Tuesday (March 5)  NPD staff was called to assist in locating an intoxicated 17-year-old female.

The girl needed to be located after leaving the her residence.

Officer located the female a short time later, lying on the roadway of the 300 block of Cedar Street.

The girl had fallen from the adjacent walkway — about two meters.)

The female was transported to Kootenay Lake Hospital where she was treated and released.
