RCMP make $1.5 million marihuana grow-op seizure near Prince George

Twas days before Christmas and members from the North District Integrated Marihuana Enforcement Task Force (NDIME), Prince George Detachment and North District Drug Section were searching a residence in Prince George to find a marihuana grow operation seizure of approximately $1.5 million.

“The estimated street value of this seizure was approximately $1.5 million dollars said Constable Lesley Smith, North District Media Relations Officer.

A hydro bypass was used to steal the electricity needed for this significant marijuana grow operation. The bypass was extremely dangerous as live wires were seen protruding from the wall of the garage.

It was the search of power theft that led police to the residence on Pilot Mountain Road, Prince George.

There police located a marihuana grow operation  with approximately 1,569 marihuana plants in various stages of growth  along with equipment used for growing marijuana.

RCMP also seized evidence in relation to the theft of electricity.

Two Prince George males, ages 36 and 59 years old and a third male, 41 years of age from Smithers, were arrested and are facing charges for Theft of Telecommunications (Electricity) as well as charges of Production of a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking.

All three males arrested at the residence will be making their first court appearance in Prince George on April 3rd, 2013.

This investigation is part of the Marihuana Grow Initiative, the RCMP’s national strategy to combat Marihuana Grow Operations and the organized crime groups running them in our communities.
