The Prince George RCMP’s Serious Crime Section, in partnership with the BC Coroners Service, are continuing their investigation into the tragic deaths of two local youth this past weekend.

“The deaths of Craig Allen Wood and Kendall Gabriella Moore are extremely tragic” states Cpl. Todd Wilson of the Prince George RCMP’s Serious Crime Section.

“We will do everything we can to determine how and why this tragedy took place.”

Necessary post mortem testing including toxicology tests are being planned for both youths.

In addition, the Prince George RCMP’s Forensic Identification Section will continue to examine the 1994 GMC Jimmy, two door SUV, and a mechanical exam on the vehicle will be conducted shortly.

The Prince George RCMP would also like to advise the public that there is a considerable amount of rumour and speculation surrounding this tragedy.

Some of these rumours have surfaced through both traditional and social media. There are formal investigations underway that will determine the facts.

The police and our partners must make determinations based on facts, not rumours. Once a determination has been made, any enforcement, prevention or awareness action will be taken if necessary.

Investigators are requesting to speak to anyone that may have seen the incident or spoke to either deceased in the early hours of that morning. Photo and video images of the incident may assist greatly.

Police began their investigation at 4 a.m. on Sunday, May 18 when they received a report of a vehicle that had gone into Kwitzil Lake, more commonly known as Gravel Pit Lake, just off Highway 16 West of Prince George..

At that time, indications were that two persons were in the vehicle, but that could not be confirmed until the vehicle was removed from the water.

Just before 4 p.m. the same day, the Prince George RCMP coordinated the removal of the GMC Jimmy from Kwitzil Lake with the assistance from the BC RCMP’s Underwater Recovery Team.

Upon inspection of the vehicle, the bodies of Craig Allen Wood, 19, and Kendall Gabriella Moore, 17, were located deceased in the vehicle.

Both are from Prince George.
