NPD investigate downtown burglary, arrest aggressive panhandler

Nelson Police is continuing its investigation after the report a trio of downtown business were burglarized early Tuesday morning Sergeant Corey Hoy said in a media release.

Hoy said officers responded to a call at approximately 3:47 a.m. Tuesday.

“Upon police arrival, it was determined that three businesses in the same complex had been broken into and various items had been removed,” Hoy explained.

Hoy said Police continue to investigate the burglary and are asking anyone with information to contact the Nelson Police Department at 250-354-3919 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Police arrest aggressive panhandler

Nelson Police report an aggressive panhandler was taken off the streets several calls were received at dispatch from various members of the public.

Hoy said first call came in at 9:30 a.m. regarding an aggressive panhandler in the downtown area. 

“The Nelson Police Department had received several calls related to the described male and it was determined that the male was in breach of his Probation Order,” Hoy explained.

Hoy said the man, known to police and has a history of aggressive panhandling, was located and arrested for breaching his Probation Order. 

Hoy said the man was held in custody for a bail hearing to occur on Wednesday.

Police is recommending three counts of Breach of Probation.
