Mental Health related calls continue to keep NPD staff busy

Nelson Police continue to deal with mental health calls after a woman was arrested Friday (July 10) afternoon for causing a disturbance in a local establishment.

Nelson Police Sergeant Corey Hoy said in a media release a woman who had assaulted a male Thursday was taken into custody Friday and was subsequently transported to a medical facility in consultation with mental health officials.

The events began to unfold Thursday at 11:09 p.m. when Nelson Police dispatch received a call of an assault in the 1100 block Lakeside Drive. 

Hoy said police arrived to determine a female had assaulted a male while he was walking home. 

Police believe the assault was not a random act and the female is known to police. 

Sgt Hoy said police were recommending charges of assault and uttering threats.

The events continued Friday (July 10) when at approximately 12:18 p.m., NPD Dispatch received a call of a woman creating a disturbance in a local establishment. 

When officers arrived, it was determined the female was the person related to an assault and uttering threats compliant the police received Thursday.

The woman was allegedly assaulted and threatened staff.

Police took the woman into custody and was subsequently transported to a facility in consultation with mental health officials. 

The Nelson Police Department will be seeking additional charges of assault and uttering threats for the female in this matter.

Both incidents come one day after a middle-aged woman from Albert was gruesomely attacked and left unconscious, heavily bleeding and severely injured in the Rosemont District by a 48-year-old male.

The man is in currently in police custody and NPD is working with Crown Council and Nelson Mental Health personnel on this matter.
