Man charged in Julie Paskall homicide

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced Saturday (May 24), that a 27-year-old male has been arrested and charged in connection with the Julie Paskall homicide investigation.
Paskall, a hockey mom waiting in the parking lot, was beaten December 29, 2013 at Newton Arena at approximately 9:30 p.m.
Paskall, 53, had suffered life threatening injuries and died two days later.
After five months of investigation and countless hours of forensic analysis, extensive search and canvas of the area, the review of approximately 1000 hours of video footage surveillance, Yosef Jomo Gopaul was arrested in Surrey without incident.
Gopaul was charged with second degree murder in connection with Julie Paskall’s death.
IHIT was called upon to lead this investigation and with the assistance of a variety of specialized resources and other units including tremendous support from Surrey RCMP detachment, says Superintendent Kevin Hackett, Officer in Charge of IHIT.
Together we remained focussed on gathering evidence, following leads and deploying all the tools and resources available to ensure the individual responsible was held accountable. That coordinated and integrated approach has once again proven successful including significant support from municipal, provincial and federal RCMP units.
Gopaul is scheduled to make his first court appearance at Surrey Provincial Court on Monday (May 26).
