Driver escapes serious injury after pickup ends up in Cottonwood Creek

A driver escaped injury after a silver Toyota Tacoma pickup ended up in Cottonwood Creek early Tuesday morning.

Nelson Fire Department received the call at 6:40 a.m. that a vehicle left the road near Cottonwood Creek on Highway 6 near Nelson Toyota.

Both on-duty members responded immediately with one additional members arriving from home.

When fire crews arrived, the lone occupant was on the road and being attended to by a Nelson Police Department officer.

The NPD member, the first to arrive on the scene, was able to assist the driver up the bank.

Nelson firefighters were quick to assess the patient for injuries and ensure that no fluids from the vehicle were escaping into the creek. 

Absorbent pads were utilized to capture a small antifreeze leak.

EHS attended to take over patient care and assessed the patient.

Prior to Western Auto Wreckers removing the vehicle, Nelson Fire crews placed a boom across the creek to capture any accidental or subsequent fluid releases.

No additional fluids escaped from the vehicle.

The Nelson Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident.
