West Kootenay Crusaders off to BC Hockey Provincials

The West Kootenay Crusaders are off to the BC Hockey U15 AA Championships March 19-22 in Fort St. John.

The Crusaders defeated East Kootenay Avalanche 4-2 in the in the BC Zone League Tier 1 AA Playoffs this past weekend in Kamloops.

The teams were tied 2-2 heading into the third period before West Kootenay scored twice to secure the victory and the zone top seed at the upcoming provincial tournament.

The Crusaders opened with a 5-2 loss to East Kootenay Avalanche before roaring back to win three straight games — 7-6 over OMAHA Thompson, 9-4 over OMAHA South and 8-3 over OMAHA South.

The West Kootenay Crusaders consist of four players from Nelson, most of the roster from Trail as well as skaters from Castlegar, Beaver Valley and Grand Forks.

Forward Miller Tedesco, who led the Crusaders in scoring during the weekend with eight points, forward Larson Proctor, with two goals during the weekend, and defencemen Eliot Rude and Nicolas Bowwn, are from Nelson.

West Kootenay won the regular season banner two weeks ago in Cranbrook, finishing the season with a 19-3-2 record.

The BC Zone League Tier 1 AA consists of seven teams from West and East Kootenay, Prince George and four teams from the Thompson/Okanagan.

Following the final, both East Kootenay Avalanche and West Kootenay Crusaders joined for a group photo. — Submitted
