Reece Walsh won gold and Harper Henderson and Linnea Sharelove each won medals as the Whitewater Ski Team kicked off the 2011 Nancy Greene Ski League with awesome results at Rossland’s Red Mountain.

“These results prove that we are heading in the right direction with our program and that we can compete with the bigger and better funded teams and with the elite athletes in the zone,” said a Whitewater spokesperson.

Walsh won his gold medal in the K1 (boy’s 11 and 12 years). Walsh also added a silver to go with three fourth-place finishes.

Henderson finished second to Walsh along with a fifth, eighth and tenth-place showing.

Liam Osak finished sixth, seventh, tenth, 11th and 12th while Kalob Jensen placed 12th twice to go with a 14th and 15th.

Sharelove, competing in K1 girls, won the bronze along with a fourth, fifth, eighth and 19th.

The Whitewater team was missing Paisley Randell to injury and Savannah Leishman due to a previous commitment.

The race attracted teams from Fernie, host Red Mountain, Kimberley, Panorama near Invermere and Salmo.

The K-category skiers head to Fernie in February for the next zone race before participating in the provincials at Mt. Washington. The K2 is in Whistler and Panorama.

The Kootenay K Zone Finals are Mar 26-27 at Whitewater.
