The Trafalgar Thunder completed an excellent season on the local basketball courts by capturing the West Kootenay Grade 8 Boy's Championship Saturday at the J. Lloyd Crowe gymnasium in Trail.
The Thunder capped off an undefeated season against West Kootenay competition by outlasting Stanley Humphries Coyotes of Castlegar 66-44 in the final.
The Coyotes kept the game close through two quarters before the Thunder exploded in the second half to secure the win.
Elijah Marcum-McCormick led the Thunder with 24 points with point-guard Jaxon Slomba adding 12 points and Seth Kilpatrick and Cooper Anast each finishing with 10 points.
All 10 players on the Thunder finished with points on the scoresheet.
Trafalgar, gaining a bye into the semi final round at the seven-team tournament, defeated host Crowe Hawks 69-36 in the morning semi final.
Anast paced the Thunder with 13 points while Marcum-McCormick added 10.
Stanley Humphries got past Grand Forks Wolves in the other semi final.
Salmo, Rossland and Mount Sentinel were the other teams entered in the tournament.
