Nelson Curling Club is sending two teams to the Provincial Tournament later this year following the West Kootenay Men’s and Women’s Club Challenge Playdowns Saturday at the Heritage City facility.

Marla Dreher and Garry Meadows of Nelson captured the zone titles in the best-of-three playdowns.

Saturday, Dreher, third Michelle Kooznetsoff, second Shadow Bilne and lead Marlo Tedesco defeated Carolyn Alexander of Castlegar 10-5 and 11-3 to advance. Alexander’s rink included third Lanett Glennie, second Takaia Larsen and lead Jen Cliff Marks.

Also, in Nelson, the Meadows rink of third Harry Davidson, second Don Harasym and lead Tim Beecham needed all three games to defeat Deane Horning of Castlegar.

Meadows opened with a 7-5 win before Horning rallied to square the best-of-three playdown with a 7-2 win. In the tie-breaker, Meadows won 9-4 after rallying from a 4-2 deficit.

The Dreher and Meadows rinks now represent the West Kootenay zone at the BC Club Challenge March 21-24 in Abbotsford.
