The Nelson Leafs are looking to move a little closer to adding a second consecutive Murdoch Division regular season banner to the trophy case when the Heritage City franchise hosts Creston Valley Thunder Cats in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action Friday at the NDCC Arena.

Nelson, 30-10-2-1, holds a 15-point lead over second place Beaver Valley Nitehawks in a race for the Murdoch title.

The two Murdoch rivals meet Saturday in the final regulation season game between the two teams at the Frutivale Arena.

The Leafs have been one of the hottest teams since Christmas, winning 11 of 13 games.

The only loss during the streak came against Fernie Ghostriders January 26. The last time Nelson and Beaver Valley played, the two clubs battled to a 4-4 overtime tie.

Fans attending Nelson’s game against Creston will notice the players wearing its special Autism Awareness jerseys, proudly sponsored by owner Trevor Sawchuck at Nelson Remedy’s RX.

Nelson will wear the jerseys during is month-long February Autism Awareness campaign against Spokane Braves and Fernie Ghostriders.

The NDCC concourse will be lined with information booths during the four regular season games in February.

Hockey fans can make donations at these booths or support the Hockey Society bottle drive at the Nelson Leafs Bottle Depot on Saturday, February 23rd.
