U13 Selects pound Kootenay East 9-0 to advance to Provincial B Cup

The Nelson Selects scored early and often en route to a convincing 9-0 shellacking of Kootenay East in BC Soccer Provincial B U13 Boy’s Playoff action.

The win, couple with a series victory over Kootenay South, qualifies the Selects for the BC Soccer Provincial B Cup July 6-9 in Vernon.

“Many of the boys have been with the program for three years (and) this has been one of our goals from day one,” said coach Joe Chirico after the Selects qualified for the provincial tournament.

“Most importantly each practice and game our goal has been to get better, have fun and play the game the correct way. Thanks to NYS rep committee and technical director, Brett Adams for all the support.”

Nelson pounded the Kootenay East keeper with 13 attempts on goal in the opening half, and were rewarded with five goals.

Milo Klein, with a pair, Berend Platje, Tyler Walmsley and Tavish Cutler scored for Nelson.

Klein, with his third of the game, Platje, Cameron Bibby-Fox and Dylan Watts completed the scoring for Nelson in the second half.

During the Kootenay Playdowns, Nelson outscored the opposition by a 18-1 mark.
