Selects continue slow build to Provincial B Cup

The Nelson Selects is keeping building process on schedule for a berth in the BC Soccer Provincial B Cup.

The Selects posted a pair of wins over rival Kootenay South to advance past the first phase of Kootenay U13 Boy’s Provincial B Cup Qualifying recent at the Lakeside Pitch in Nelson.

Milo Klein scored twice and Levi Taylor converted a penalty kick to power the Selects to a 6-1 victory over Kootenay South.

Tavish Cutler, Berend Platje and Dylan Moynes also scored for Nelson. David Pengelly replied for Kootenay South.

Nelson opened the two-game total-goal series with a 3-0 victory.

Klein scored twice and Tyler Walmsley added a single for Nelson. Noah Ens was in goal for the Selects to earn the clean sheet.

Nelson then finished with a 2-1 record at the Terry Walgren Tournament Sunday in Nelson.

The Selects only blemish on an otherwise great week of soccer was a 3-1 loss to rival U14s of Nelson.

The semi-final loss eliminated the Selects from the tournament.

Ryder Skolka scored the only goal for Nelson.

“The team played hard and learned a great deal playing against the best,” said coach Joe Chirico.

“Noah Ens played a great game and held the team in the game,” Chirico added.

Nelson opened the tourney edging Kootenay South on a late goal by Cutler, with assists to Jake Marshall and Klein.

Ethan Bennett was in goal to earn the shutout for Nelson.

Nelson then had an easy time against Kootenay East, blasting the Cranbrook squad 8-1. Cutler minutes into the contest started the rout.

Platje, with a pair, Skolka, Levi Taylor, Cutler, Marshall and Cameron Bibby-Fox completed the scoring for the Selects.

Nelson led 4-1 at the half.
