Schacher, Baron golden at B.C. Gymnastics Championships

Glacier athletes Jasmine Schacher and Quinn Baron finished on top of the medal podium at the B.C. Gymnastics Championships Sunday in Langley.
The two Glacier gymnasts won the gold medals in the Level three categories.
“This is a high level competition that showcases the best talent in B.C.,” said a member of the Glacier coaching staff in a written release.
“Athletes from Glacier competed at the provincial level which requires many gymnasts to qualify and be selected to attend the Championships.”
Schacher, 13, competing in Level 3 under-14 year girl’s division, won the Provincial title on the balance beam. Schacher also finished fifth on vault and eighth on floor.
Meanwhile, Baron, 11, won his B.C. title in Level 3 under-13 boy’s vault. Baron added a bronze medal in the rings to his gold along with fourth overall finish.
Baron was fourth on high bar, fifth on parallel bars and eighth on floor.
Sixteen athletes from the Heritage City club traveled to the Fraser Valley for the three-day meet in Men and women’s artistic categories ranging from Levels 1 to 4.
Other results had Ella Keelan capturing a silver medal on beam in the Level 3 under-12 girl’s division.
Keelan, 11, also registered a fifth in the floor exercise to complete the championship with a ninth-place overall.
Chultim O’Neil, 13, also won a silver medal on the vault in the under-14 girl’s Level 2.
O’Neil narrowly missed another medal on floor, placing fourth to complete the event in eighth overall.
Rounding out the Glacier results had 13-year-old Abby Bouchier-Willans with a sixth-place finish on the balance beam in a highly competitive Level 4 division; Ciuin Murphy, 12, eighth on floor and rings in men’s under-13 Level 3; and Kylee Dyck ninth on floor and tenth on beam in Level 2 under-12 category.
The Level 1 boy’s team had a great showing in the achievement-oriented category where they earn gold, silver or bronze according to their performances.
Oliver McDougall-Eisele scored gold in the all around and gold on floor and vault.
Teammates Matthew Bullen earned gold on vault; Sam Fisher was the best on vault while Chris Lawrence-Jeffery earned silver on floor and River Murphy earned gold on vault.
There is little rest of the Glacier athletes as the club is playing host to the Kootenay Zone Championships Saturday and Sunday at the Civic Centre gymnastics facility.
The majority of the competitive events go Saturday. The boy’s event kicks off at 8:30am, followed by the girl’s events at noon and the higher levels starting at 4:30pm.
Sunday is the pre-competitive and interclub levels starting at 9:45am and 2:45pm. respectively.
