Goals came in bunches as the Leo’s Pizza Men’s Open City League Soccer kicked off its 2013 campaign on the pitch at Lakeside Tuesday evening.

Defending champion Old Dogs FC started the season the way the club finished 2012, with a victory.

In a rematch of the 2012 Final, Old Dogs FC got two goals from rookie Adam Grace to edge Kootenay Co-op 3-2.

Old Dogs FC opened a 2-0 lead before Co-op cut the margin to 2-1 with a penalty conversion.

Grace scored his second of the game to once again increase the lead to two goals. But Kootenay Co-op scored late in the contest to close the margin once again to a single goal.

However, Co-op ran out of time, and light, on opening day.

In the other contest, Nelson Innkeepers shutout U17 Nelson Selects 3-0.

Mike Precious was in goal for the Innkeepers.

Nelson City League continues Wednesday with the Finlays Ladies Rec League.

Lily Whites meet Dirty Dozen while Red Dog battles Selkirk Eyecare and Goal Diggers play Fire Balls.

Jackson’s Hole Masters League opens play Thursday.
