No doubt Leaf hockey fans would like to see a few more wins on the ice.

However, the fan base will be pleased to know the franchise continues to be one of the most successful clubs in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League after Gord Davis announced the team finished in the black despite being knocked out in the first round of the playoffs.

“The Nelson Leafs Hockey Society ended up in the black by nearly $20,000 this season due to the hard work of staff and volunteers,” Davis told The Nelson Daily.

Davis said, while fans continue to support the team at the ticket wicket, the main reason for the year ending in the black was due to the success of the Leafs Recycling Centre.

“As always, hockey operations relied heavily on the Recycling Centre, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Nelson Leafs,” Davis explained.

“Fan base remained steady and the new board will be focusing on ways to fill the seats in the new season.”

The Recycling Centre topped the $300,000 mark in gross revenue and a net profit of more than $70,000.

The release of the team’s finances was the final job for Davis, who resigned his position on the team executive as treasurer after more than two decades of working with the KIJHL team.

Executive member Randy Horswill also resigned his position with the Leafs.

Karilynn Carr and Randy Craik, who were both elected by acclamation, replaced the Horswill and Davis on the executive.

Also on the Leaf executive is President John Dooley, Tony Maida, Gioconda Gordon and Lauretta Wilson.

Mario DiBella, Sean Dooley and Isaac Macleod return as the coaching staff for the 2016-17 season.
