Bjorn Morris scored a game-high 25 points to lead the L.V. Rogers Bombers to a 59-52 overtime victory over Similkameen Sparks from Keremeos in the consolation final of the Kalamalka Lakers High School Boy’s Basketball Rock The Rim Tournament Saturday in Vernon.

The win clinched third spot in the eight-team tournament for the Bombers.

Last week LVR lost in the final of the Golden Eagles Tournament to Valleyview of Kamloops.

The Bombers looked to have an easy walk against Similkameen, building a large lead late in the game.

But the Sparks started to claw their way back, torching the Bomber defence with solid outside shooting from behind the three-point arc and tying the game at 46-46 to force the extra period.

LVR was able to regroup, out scoring Similkameen 13-6 to grab the consolation title.

Ethan Perkins and Isaiah Kingdon had 10 and nine points, respectively for LVR while Tobin Eberle was named the Bomber game MVP.

LVR opened the tournament with a 68-60 win over two-time AA Boy’s Basketball Champion Kelowna Christian.

Perkins, named the game MVP for LVR, led the team with 25 points.

The Bombers then lost 65-58 to the host Kalamalka Lakers in the semi final round.

“We were neck and neck until they went on one run to go up late third quarter,” said Bomber coach Jeremy Phelan.

“We couldn’t stop one guy (Chris Gallant) who scored 23 on us. But guys battled hard and made it close in the end.”

Perkins scored 15 points to lead LVR.

Morris was the game MVP.

The Bombers have a weekend off before traveling to Mount Sentinel to compete in a playday tourney.

LVR hosts the J. Lloyd Crowe Hawks later this month to determine the Kootenay AAA Zone champion and a berth in the provincial tournament.
