Hume Innkeepers, Wild Cats, Club Inter Celebrate Soccer Championships

Mitch Melanson scored the only goal of the game sparking the Hume Innkeepers to a narrow 1-0 victory over Kootenay Co-op in the Men’s Open Final Saturday at the Lakeside Pitch.

The win allow the Innkeepers to repeat as Men’s Open Champs.

The marker came approximately 30 minutes into the contest.

Shortly after Co-op missed a chance on a penalty shot to score the opening goal, the Innkeepers came roaring back 10 minutes later.

After controlling the play, Melanson split a few Co-op defenders on the left side of the pitch before pounding a shot into the goal.

Hume keeper Mike Precious then kept the Co-op offence off the scoresheet for the remainder of the game to preserve the narrow win.

The victory completed a season sweep for Hume as the club also won the regular season title.

The Men’s Open Final was one of three Championship matches as Nelson Youth Soccer concluded the outdoor season this past weekend.

In the Master’s Men’s Final, Club Inter dominated regular season champion Ted Allen’s from start to finish en route to a 7-1 victory Sunday at Lakeside.
Club Inter scored early and often as the second-place finisher upset Ted Allen’s.

During the playoffs, Club Inter outscored the opposition 11-1.
Ted Allen’s knocked off defending champion Jackson’s Hole 3-2 in semi final play while Club Inter got past Bia Boro 4-0.

In the Ladies Rec League, Wild Cats made it a clean sweep to the title, outlasting Dirty Dozen 3-0.

Wildcats, defeating Gold Diggers 5-1 to reach the final, finished the season undefeated in 14 games.

In Youth Soccer action, winners included Vibe in U12 Girls; Kootenay Lake Electric in U12 Boys; Natural Phamacy in U14 Girls and EZ Rock in U14 Boys.
