The Nelson Selects held off a pesky Kootenay South squad to nail down the Kootenay berth for the upcoming B.C. Soccer Provincial B Cup next month in Kelowna.

The Selects finished the Kootenay U15 Girl’s Playdowns with a 1-0 victory over West Kootenay rivals Sunday in Provincial Playdowns at the Lakeside Pitch.

Aroha Taiatini-Senechal score the only goal the Selects would need and the back line of Jena Wheeldon, Daina Shaw, Tara Yowek and Paige Lefranc kept the opposition off the scoresheet to lead the host club.

Nelson opened the tournament with a 2-0 win over East Kootenay of Cranbrook.

Despite owning the opposition, Nelson opened the scoring in a lucky break with the East Kootenay keeper bobbled the ball into the net.

Hailee Gerun and Taiatini-Senechal scored for Nelson.

The Selects defeated Columbia Valley in the other game of the four-team, round-robin tournament 3-1.

The one-two scoring punch of Gerun and Taiatini-Senechal led the Reps, with the latter scoring twice.

Nelson advances to the B.C. Soccer Provincial B Cup July 5-8 in Kelowna.
