Calvin, Edwards pace Hawks to 7-0 dismantling of Leafs in Murdoch Final

After failing to score in Game two of the Murdoch Division Finals, the Beaver Valley Nitehawks busted out of an offensive slump in a big way.
The Hawks two-headed Monster — Ryan Edwards and Dallas Calvin — combined for nine points to lead Beaver Valley to a 7-0 shellacking of the Leafs in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League Playoff action Monday night in Fruitvale.
The win gives Beaver Valley a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-seven Murdoch Division Final with Game four Tuesday in Fruitvale.
The series then shifts back to Nelson Thursday for Game five at the NDCC Arena.
After a scoreless first period, the Hawks took control of the game, scoring four times in the second period — including three goals in a four-minute span.
Edwards led the charge, scoring twice with singles going to Calvin and Braden Fuller.
Archie McKinnon, the hero in Game one of the series, Keanan Patershuk and Calvin scored in the third as Beaver Valley potted three power play goals.
Patrick Zubick, who shutout the Hawks in Game two Saturday, survived 25 minutes in the Leaf nets before being pulled in favour of rookie Jason Mailhoit.
Zubick, who toiled this season for the Castlegar Rebels, started his third straight game for Nelson after being an emergency call to the Leafs due to both Brad Rebagliati and Adam Maida out of the lineup due to injury.
Beaver Valley out shot Nelson 44-24, including a 15-4 margin in the third period.
Brett Clark was solid in the Beaver Valley nets to register the win.
SERIES NOTES: The shutout was the second time this playoff season the Leafs have been blanked. Spokane Braves beat Nelson 3-0 in Game five of the Murdoch Semi Final. . . . Nelson’s Robson Cramer was handed a five-minute match penalty in the third period. The penalty carries an automatic suspension. . . .Leafs high-scoring forward Jamie Vlanich was handed a check-to-the head penalty, that includes a 10 minute misconduct in the second period. . . .The four-point night powered Dallas Calvin into the KIJHL scoring lead with 15 points. Ryan Edwards is tied for second with 13 points, with two other players including Nelson’s Carsen Willans. . . . In Kimberley, the hometown Dynamiters took a 2-1 series lead over Creston with a 4-1 victory in the Eddie Mountain Final.
