The Kootenay Mountaineering Club has been offering ski touring, climbing and hiking trips to its members since 1964.

On the evening of (Saturday) June 7, the KMC will be celebrating their 50th  year with an exciting and informative presentation by Dave Quinn.  Folks will recognize Dave as CBC radio’s Outdoor Guy.

Join us for a colorful presentation of some of the major conservation issues of the Kootenay Region, as seen from the uptracks, summits, ridges, and descents of some of the area’s classic, and not-so-classic ski traverses.  From Darkwoods to the Goat range, the Central Purcells to the Moyie Range, and the Flathead to the Central Rockies, come prepared for a feast of Kootenay wilderness, and a sense of the pressures shaping its future.

The event will be held at 8 p.m. at the Old Castlegar Theatre, 185 Columbia Avenue, Castlegar.

No charge for KMC members, and only $5 for non-members.  Tickets at the door, only. Doors open at 7:30

In adition, to help KMC celebrate its 50th anniversary, Orienteering BC and the KMC are co-hosting an orienteering event at Selkirk College’s Castlegar campus. Participants can start between 2-3 p.m., with course closing at 4:30 PM. No charge for KMC members.

Otherwise, purchase of a $5 Orienteering BC membership is the entry fee. Both a beginner and an intermediate course will be set. This is a fun way to learn how to use a map and compass and to get some exercise. Volunteers will be present to help get you started and to provide information on the Kootenay Mountaineering Club and Orienteering BC.
