The Hume School Parent Advisory Committee were thrilled to be cutting the ribbon Wednesday (April 30) to celebrate the opening of the newly installed climbing structure, a Berliner Spaceball, as an extension to the existing playground which is has a limited capacity for the use exclusively of younger children.

In the Fall of 2012, the PAC embarked on this ambitious project, a $50,000 investment, commencing with sales of grocery cards for the Kootenay Co-op, Save-on-More and Canada Safeway.

The profits from the cards leveraged against grant applications, and coupled with the support of the Kootenay Lake School District No. 8 as well as the support of many businesses and in kind donations contributed to this goal becoming a reality a short 18 months later.

Noteworthy is the BC Tire Stewardship grant and the matching Kal Tire 60th Anniversary grant which account for the fall protection comprised of a recycle rubber compound which appropriately happened to be installed on Earth Day.

A huge shout out for the spirit and support of our fabulous community in building this legacy for our children.

Our life size checkerboard installed beside the climbing structure, permanently recognizes major donors.

Thank you Nelson!
