Camp Koolaree on the south side of Kootenay Lake is hosting an Open House Saturday (July 9th) to celebrate its 85th anniversary.

Established in 1931, Camp Koolaree is a 137 acre camp located on the West Arm of beautiful Kootenay Lake.

Surrounded by beach, trails, mountains and lake, it makes for a true wilderness experience.  Koolaree has been serving the Kootenays for 85 years by offering a place for children and families to experience rustic camping.  Koolaree has always strived to give everyone the opportunity to experience it’s beauty regardless of financial situation.

Each year the camp receives donations to their campership fund to enable families with low-income to send their kids to camp for a week.

Koolaree has a no turn away policy and welcomes people of all faiths to join in their community.

Last August Camp Koolaree held their first ever Open House.

The afternoon saw over 90 people and included tours, games, crafts, a hike to the falls, a yummy dinner and campfire songs.

The event was a huge success.

Saturday, guests will have the option to stay a full day for lunch and dinner, or for a half day which will include one meal.  Guests will be picked up at McDonald’s landing just off of Lower Six Mile Road on Kootenay Lake.  They will arrive via boat at Koolaree’s dock and find a full list of the day’s activities.

There will be tours happening all day, a hike to the falls, beach time, crafts in the Ad Hut, games for all ages in the field, lunch and dinner, a singalong and of course cake!

This is the perfect opportunity for families to come check out what the camp has to offer, and is also a great way for anyone who may not be able to come for a whole week to enjoy the serenity the camp has to offer.
