Bikes not Pipes Kootenays Rides Again

The Bikes Not Pipes Kootenay bike tour is happening for the 4th straight year. It’s a promotional ride for active transportation and a future less dependent on fossil fuels. We ride from Nelson to Winlaw Thursday, on to New Denver Friday, over to Kaslo Saturday, and back to Nelson on Sunday.
Everyone is welcome to ride with us for all or part of the journey. We plan to have some stop overs en route to engage with school students to share our message and have some fun learning about ecological footprint together.
“I’ve done this Bikes Not Pipes ride three years running, there’s no experience like it, going through spectacular mountains for a great cause. Awesome team work,” says John Alton one of the main organizers.
“We are concerned about climate change and air pollution and wish to inspire people to bike, walk or take transit whenever possible,” he says.
“We can have a great time without fossil fuels in our part of the world. It’s one thing we can do to help our whole planet… put out less carbon. Like BC environmentalist Guy Dauncey says, if it’s not fun it’s not sustainable,” says Keith Wiley who has also ridden every year.
Unless there is pouring rain, departure will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 25th at the Railtown parking lot, near the electric vehicle charging station. Join us there and ride with us for any part of the 220 km round trip.
