Writing can be a confusing business when you’re twenty or thirty-thousand words in, but author Holley Rubinsky has the answer.

She’s been offering writing retreats at her Kaslo home since 2011, giving writers dedicated writing time and targeted feedback — leading ultimately to success.

For her upcoming retreat October 16 – 19, she’s invited Nelson author Anne DeGrace to help collaborate with five engaged, committed writers over the four-day intensive.

“A writer mid-way through a first draft, or deeply involved in a project, seldom has the opportunity to work with an experienced writer/editor team to ensure that the manuscript is on track,” says Rubinsky.

Writing Retreats Kaslo offers pre-retreat reading of participant material, phone conversation and feedback, so that before the retreat itself each writer is focused on what she intends to accomplish and “hits the ground running,” as Rubinsky says.

“And Anne’s background in all aspects of writing and publishing will be a real opportunity to learn the ins and outs.”

At the conclusion of the retreat, writers can expect to emerge with new understanding, direction and thousands of words to move their projects forward. Two weeks later, DeGrace and Rubinsky will meet with participants in person or online to assess and offer support.

DeGrace is delighted to be a part of the next Writing Retreats Kaslo.

“A gorgeous setting, a group of like-minded people with inspiring projects, and the chance to work with one of the best,” she says. “It doesn’t get much better than this.”

The retreat is open to writers of fiction, creative nonfiction, memoir, and plays. Champagne and borscht are involved, not necessarily at the same time.

Holley Rubinsky is the author of four books of fiction, most recently South of Elfrida(Brindle & Glass, 2013). In her storied career she’s also been a radio show host and a pilot, among other things. Recent editing credits include Julie Paul’s The Pull of the Moon (short stories, Brindle & Glass, Fall 2014) and Tough Days in Paradise: Surviving the Johnson’s Landing Slides by Amanda Bath (memoir, Harbour, Spring 2015).

Anne DeGrace is the author of four novels, currently with Cormorant Books that has recently released a new trade paper edition of her novel, Flying with Amelia. Two of her books have been Indigo/Chapters “Heather’s Picks”. DeGrace has also published four regional photographic books and illustrated seven children’s books, has taught at writing festivals and in schools, mentored writers, and edited books and magazines.
