Fred worked for the CPR and then for Canada Post for 35 years.  He knew the streets, alleys, roads and hills better than anyone.

Fred was a true “Nelsonite”, born and raised.  He loved the city and the surrounding area.  He enjoyed hiking, fishing, golfing, camping and spending time with his family.  The treks to Pulpit Rock, Idaho Lookout and Kokanee Glacier were yearly events in the Walgren household.

Fred was a member of the Nelson Kootenay Kiltie Pipe Band for 50 years.  He shared his love of pipe band with his mom, brother, nephews and two of his sons who played with him for several years. He was a cub and scout leader from the 1950’s to the 1980’s.  After retiring, he belonged to the Nelson Good Sam’s Club and he and Beryl shared many 5th wheel adventures with friends and family.  Fred also enjoyed traveling the world and experiencing new cultures.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday October 12th, at 1:00 pm at the Nelson United Church, 602 Silica Street, Nelson.  Reception to follow.
