Mary Elizabeth McMurray (Vance)

November 25, 1946 – November 22, 2017

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of a beautiful soul.  Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Wife, Aunt and Friend.

Mary passed away in a peaceful state Wednesday November 22nd after a brief but courageous battle with Cancer.  Mary is survived by her husband Ron, Sisters – Marg Rosling (Don), Judy Stewart, Corrine Scheldrup (Don), Brothers – Bob Vance (Sharon), Oly Manderscheid.  Children – Cindy (Robert), Donnie (Gayle), Marcie, and grandchildren Violet, Diego, Georgina, Jaden, Brodie, Ruby, and Josh.  She is predeceased by her Parents Lavern (Vern) Vance & Edna Mae (Teddy) Vance and Sister Lavern Manderscheid.

Mary moved to Nelson shortly after being born in Trail, BC in 1946.  It was there that she grew most of her roots prior to attending private school at Crofton House in Vancouver from 1962-1965.  After brief stays in Ladner, Summerland, Prince George, Castlegar, Golden & Williams Lake she returned to Nelson to raise her family from 1977-2005.  She took much pride in her professional life where she worked 5 years with Rosling Mermit Homes and then spent 23 years at the Nelson & District Credit Union where she retired in 2005.  She cherished the many relationships that she was able to create throughout those years.  Shortly after retirement, she moved to Vancouver to be closer to her family.  She seemed happiest spending time with her children and grandchildren and was a huge influence in each of their lives.  Mary always saw the brighter sides to life and had a unique ability to make everyone she knew feel comfortable and confident in who they were.

The family would like to express a heart felt thank you to the wonderful and caring staff at the North Shore Hospice in North Vancouver as well as Dr. Edmunds.

To honour her request, the family will be having a small private celebration of life in her name.  In Lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the North Shore Hospice or the Canadian Cancer Agency.
