On March 24, Robson Fire Fighters held out their boots in support of Muscular Dystrophy Canada. The bar was set high from last year at $7,309 and the community of Robson and area stepped up at Johnny’s Grocery and Gas on Broadwater Road and raised $7,400!

To show their support for people with neuromuscular disorders, Robson Fire Fighters organized the community boot drive to raise awareness and funds to help “make muscles move”. A boot drive is a fundraising event where local Fire Fighters go out into the community and collect donations from the public in their boots.

Since 1954, Canadian Fire Fighters have been helping Muscular Dystrophy Canada fight the battle against muscular dystrophy—a group of over 100 types of neuromuscular disorders characterized by the wasting and progressive weakness of muscles. Over time, many people with neuromuscular disorders are unable to walk, speak, or ultimately breathe. Some disorders are life-threatening and presently, there is no cure.

The money raised by Robson Fire Fighters will be donated to Muscular Dystrophy Canada to support their mission of enhancing the lives of those affected with neuromuscular disorders by continually working to provide ongoing support and resources while relentlessly searching for a cure.

“We’re absolutely blown away by the generosity of the community of Robson and all those that came out to help us raise funds for this very worthy cause. Huge thanks to Johnny’s Grocery and Gas as they step up big time to help us execute this event. We’ve had tremendous success each of the past four years with $6,200, $6,400, $6,600 and a whopping $7,300 last year so to surpass the total from last year is absolutely mind blowing!  I’m still in a bit of shock by the total of $7,400!”  says Dustin LePage, MD Canada Chair and Captain with RVFD.

It takes a Fire Fighter 56 muscles to put on a boot; it takes YOU to help fill it. By dropping your extra change into the boot, you are helping make muscles move in your community – THANK YOU for supporting your local Fire Fighters in the battle against Muscular Dystrophy!
