The West Kootenay 4-H Community Club will get things kicked off for the 2011 year, starting in January, for youth of ages nine to19 years old who are interested in food and agriculture.

Sonja Seher will be hosting an information session on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Selkirk College Castlegar Campus for anyone interested in getting involved, either as a sponsor, a volunteer or as a club member.

For the first year, the club will be incorporating gardening and food projects, with hopes for expansion in the coming years to small livestock and other areas of interest.

In addition to project work, the club members will have community events to participate in throughout the year: public speaking; judging rallies; and fairs are some examples.

It’s a great opportunity for young backyard foodies and future farmers to get involved in the community and get the information and hands-on skills they need to help them succeed in whatever they do.

There is a blogsite now which contains more information about 4-H and the club in particular, check it out at http://westkootenay4h.wordpress.com/.
