Ymir Watershed Action Team Welcomes BC Green Party MLA

Tuesday August 28 Ymir BC, Ymir Watershed Action Team (YWAT) will welcome the Deputy Leader of the BC Green Party, and Green MLA for Cowichan Valley, Sonja Furstenau to Ymir for a tour of the Quartz Creek Watershed and a community meeting about what the Greens and local communities can do to protect their precious water resources.
YWAT spokesperson Jason Leus said, “YWAT is thrilled to host MLA Sonja Furstenau in Ymir. Sonja is an outspoken advocate for community water resources having led the fight in her own riding, she supports community water rights.”
MLA Furstenau, Ymir and YWAT members, will be joined by local media in a guided tour of the Quartz Creek watershed, and Ymir catchment pond, Ymir’s only source of drinking water.
Following the Quartz Creek Watershed tour, MLA Furstenau will lead a community discussion about local consumptive use watersheds and community organization at the Ymir Community Hall (First Avenue at Cherry Street.)
“MLA Furstenau understands the importance of small community water sheds and Ymir’s struggle to maintain our current water supply,” added Leus, “YWAT welcomes her support at this crucial time for Ymir. We also welcome all local community watershed activists and supporters of small community water systems.”
