The Nelson Police Department is issuing a reminder to local residents of the importance of locking and securing all items of value in vehicles after numerous reports of thefts in recent days.

“The Nelson Police Department would like to remind the public to ensure vehicles are secure and that all valuables are removed or hidden from sight,” said NPD Sergeant Corey Hoy in a media release Tuesday.

Hoy said these criminal acts are opportunistic in nature and vehicle owners can take preventative measures to minimize these incidents.

Last month a lapse of judgement regarding locking their residence saw a burglar enter an Uphil residence through an unlocked door that cost the resident various items.
