Oxygen Art Centre in downtown Nelson is an artist-run venue that provides space and programming for artists and the public to engage in the creation, study, exhibition and performance of contemporary art in all disciplines.  

Oxygen Art Centre is currently accepting submissions for its Exhibition and Residency program.  

'V-Formation' -- A New Sculpture Graces Rossland

On Friday morning, Nelson artist Nathan Smith's interactive sculpture, "V-Formation" came to Rossland and settled into the courtyard beside Mountain Nugget.  The artist accompanied the  flock on its journey. 

The interactive aspect of this sculpture becomes evident when a person turns the bicycle pedal at the front of the installation and the wings of the geese move gracefully up and down; the creaking of the mechanism is reminiscent of the conversation of flying geese.

La Cafamore: Classical Music From The Movies (And Other Internet Lies)

Now in its eighth season of performances in the Kootenays, La Cafamore presents: Music from the Movies (and other internet lies).  The trio consisting of Angela Snyder (violin), Alexis More (viola) and Carolyn Cameron (piano) will plays works of Felix Mendelssohn, Dimitri Shostakovich and Joe Hisaishi.

When:  Thursday June 2, 7:30 p.m.

Where:  Trail United Church

            1300  Pine Ave,  Trail

Tickets:  Adults $15, Students/Seniors $12, Children under 12 free

Three high school boys from Vancouver are making a movie.  Correction:  three young men who have graduated.  They've been allowed to graduate early to work on this project, and they're busy raising funds for the work.  The introduction video (above) tells a bit about why they're doing it.  It's an ambitious and exciting idea;  I'm looking forward to seeing the 90-minute finished product.

The Jungle Book comes to life at Hume Elementary

Hume Elementary gymnasium was dressed up as a jungle as most of the student population treated the public to the opening performance of Disney's The Jungle Book Kids Wednesday.

The production is based on the novel, The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling and stars Ally Oliver as Bagheera, Jamaal Radcliffe as Baloo, Mason MacKay as King Louie, Jamie Spencer as Mowgli and Cole Jolly as Shere Khan.

Wednesday was the first of three shows.

Thursday, the performances are at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Spring Farm Fair fast approaching

The Spring Farm Fair will feature two free petting zoos, free horse-drawn carraige rides, free admission and so much more.

We are hosting our Third Annual Spring Farm Fair on May 14 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., at the Pass Creek Regional Exhibition Grounds in Robson. Spring Farm Fair is associated with the Annual Pass Creek Fall Fair, which informs and educates the public regarding the importance of the Agricultural Industry and the positive impact to the economy of B.C.

Spring hasn't officially arrived in Castlegar until you get to Fling it – and that day is finally here!

Saturday will see the 11th Annual Spring Fling Festival, with tons of entertainment, vendors, food and fun, as well as the classic car show and the famous three-on-three street hockey tourneys, this year expanded to include more age categories.
