The mayor of Slocan City is denying knowledge of a marijuana grow operation  her husband and two sons are allegedly facing charges of running.

Mayor Madeleine Perriere denied at a recent village council meeting that she knew about the operation prior to the alleged arrest of her husband and sons Aug. 23.

She issued the statement at the Sept. 13 village council meeting, saying she did not know about her family’s involvement in the drug trade prior to their arrests, CBC News reported Thursday.

RCMP raided an outdoor growing operation on Crown land on Aug. 23 — up the hill off McKean Road in Winlaw — seizing more than 657 plants and a “significant” amount of cash. Three men were arrested in connection with the incident.

Cpl. Dan Moskaluk, an RCMP spokesman, said Friday the names of the accused have not been released as charges have not yet been laid.

“It is my understanding that there is some form of a letter that has gone out to city council, and that may be the source of the names being released,” Moskaluk said.

The accused men are scheduled to appear in provincial court in Nelson Nov. 22.

Slocan City is a village of 357 people 75 kilometres north of Nelson.
