RCMP continue investigation after pedestrian killed on Highway 3A near Tarrys

A woman has died after being struck by a car Friday afternoon on Highway 3A at Tarrys Road east of Castlegar RCMP said in a media release Monday.

RCMP said front-line officers, as well as BC Highway Patrol and Emergency Services, responded to a fatal pedestrian collision on Highway 3A at Tarrys Road at 4:45 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021.

“Upon arrival it was determined that a woman in her forties (40s) was crossing Highway 3A after disembarking from a transit bus at a designated stop when she was struck by a Honda Accord traveling south,” the RCMP media release said.

“As a result, the woman succumbed to her injuries.”

RCMP said the driver of the Honda remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

“BC Highway Patrol Nelson has assumed conduct of the investigation with assistance from the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, BC Coroners’ Service and BC Transit,” RCMP said.

“The cause of the collision remains under investigation however impairment has been ruled out.”

Highway 3A was closed for most of the evening, with traffic between South Slocan and Castlegar being re-routed using Pass Creek Road.

RCMP is requesting anyone with information regarding this collision, including any dashboard camera video, to contact BCHP (BC Highway Patrol and Emergency Services) in Nelson at 250-354-5180 and reference file 2301: 2021-6323.

RCMP said the accident is a reminder to drivers and pedestrians alike that as the weather and lighting conditions worsen as we enter the winter months, please be extra vigilant for the safety all road users.

The location of the accident is approximately 10 kilometers west of the South Slocan junction of Highway 3A/6.
