Measurable rain recorded 14 of 23 days in July

There were no records were broken in the month of July after a broad upper trough of low pressure settled over the province said Ron Lakeman, Weather Forecaster at the Southeast Fire Centre.
Lakeman, in his monthly media release, said a series of Pacific disturbances provided unsettled conditions and near to cooler than seasonal temperatures during the initial 23 days of July.
“The showers and thundershowers were relatively frequent with measurable rain recorded 14 of the 23 days,” he said.
“But the daily amounts of rain were all in the minor to light category.”
Lakeman said a flat area of high pressure allowed for warmer and generally sunny conditions during the remainder of the month but a few weak disturbances still clipped the West Kootenay with scattered thunderstorms and limited showers at times.
He said the warmest temperature of the month was 35.9 degrees during the afternoon of the (Friday) July 29th.
“The mean monthly temperature was slightly cooler than normal, the average daily maximum temperature was one degree cooler than normal,” he said.
Lakeman said even with the greater than normal number of days in which measurable rain was recorded (150% of normal) the total monthly rainfall was only 57% of the normal July amount.
