The first unofficial weekend of summer is upon us and what better places to kick off the season than a trip to Kaslo or New Denver for the annual May Days Celebrations 2017.

Both celebrations have been around for more than 100 years — Kaslo 125 and New Denver 109 years young.

In New Denver, May Days kicked off with the Miss New Denver Pageant and Teen Dance Friday.

The schedule continues through the weekend with the Golf Tournament, Quilt Guild Tea & Raffle, Free Community Spirit Lunch, Soap Box Derby and Parade Monday.

A few kilometers to the north is May Days Kaslo style.

Some of the events include the Show and Shine on Front Street; massive wooden chainsaw sculptures at the Logger Sports grounds’ outdoor market and May Pole dance at Vimy Park; Logger Sports and May Day Parade at noon Victoria Day Monday.
