Long list of candidates on ballot for seat on Nelson council

The list for council and mayor candidates in Nelson ballooned to well over 20 after deadling for nominations closed Friday at 4 p.m.
Nelson native Robbie Kalabis was one for the final candidates announcing their name on the ballot for the upcoming municipal election in Nelson.
Kalabis, born and raised in the Heritage City, joins a long list on the municipal ballot October 20.
Others include incumbents Bob Adams, Janice Morrison, Robin Cherbo and Anna Purcell and challengers Brittny Anderson, Loreen Barker, Charles Jeanes, Rick Logtenberg, Heather Keczan, Keith Page, Leslie Payne, Joseph Reiner, Rob Richichi, Marg Stace and Jesse Woodward.
Cal Renwick, Stephanie Wiggins, Brian Shields, Michelle Hillaby and Travis Hauck are running under the CORE banner.
Candidates John Dooley and Bernie Brown challenge incumbent Deb Kozak for Mayor.
“I want to build on all the great work that has been done in this gorgeous city over the years, to make Nelson as welcoming, vibrant, liveable and prosperous it can be for everyone,” Kalabis said in a media release.
Kalabis, born and raised in Nelson, has been living in the Queen City for over 30 years and active member of the community having been an auxiliary member of the Nelson Fire Department for 5 years and a volunteer on the North Shore Fire Department for more than two years.
“With a seat at the council table, I will work with my colleagues to ensure that the city’s projects are carried out with as little impact to the community and businesses as possible, and give all stakeholders their opportunity to provide their feedback before, during and after.”
Kalabis Encourages all Nelsonites to share their views, vote at the upcoming election, and be engaged in their community at whatever capacity fits for them, Kalabis is enthusiastic about the future we can all create for Nelson.
“I tell people all the time that we live in paradise, and it’s true. Let’s work together to keep it that way!”
