The downward spiral continues for the Nelson Leafs.

The once mighty franchise lost for the ninth time in 10 games Wednesday night in Castlegar as West Kootenay rival Rebels built a 3-0 lead en route to a 6-3 Kootenay International Junior Hockey League decision over the Green and White.

Nico Sidoni, Ed Lindsey, with a pair, gave the Rebels the commanding lead 21 minutes into the contest.

Nelson did mount a brief challenge, outscoring the hosts 3-2 during an 11 minute span in the second period to make the score 5-3 after 40 minutes.

But that would be as close as the Leafs would get to the second-place Rebels as John Moeller scored into an empty net in the third to secure the victory.

Logan Styler and Jacob Boston also scored for Castlegar, which out shot the Leafs 44-33 in the game.

The line of Ed Lindsey, John Moeller, and Logan Styler registered nine points in the game.

Jordan Unger, Dave Howell, unassisted, and Charlie Wilkie replied for the Leafs, which dropped to 9-13-0-0-2 in Murdoch standings.

Jason Mailhiot registered the win goal for Castlegar while Devin Allen took the loss for Nelson.

Nelson returns to action Saturday when the Leafs host Grand Forks at 7 p.m. in the NDCC Arena.
