Drop Everything and Read a success in Nelson

Many business and schools the Nelson area were quiet as a church as people from all walks of life joined in the Drop Everything and Read initiative.

The event, Monday from 11-11:20 a.m. saw people come together to read.

At L.V. Rogers High School hallways were filled with students and staff taking a break to read for 20 minutes.

There was also another Read Fest at Oso Negro Coffee Shop where Nelson Mayor John Dooley and wife Pat were joined Nelson Police Department staff, LVR students and principal Tim Huttemann, Nelson Leafs, as well as members of the public.

Later in the day LVR students held a read-in at the Chahko Mika Mal.

Drop Everything and Read is an initiative that promotes literacy in BC and the the joy of reading and by encouraging everyone to pick up a book and read together for 20 minutes.
