Driver lucky to be okay after logging truck overturns

On March 2, at roughly 11:13 a.m., Slocan Lake RCMP along with New Denver Fire Department responded to a single motor vehicle accident involving a loaded logging truck. The tractor and trailer was travelling south on Hwy 6 near Jacobs Road in New Denver. The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle lost control when failing to negotiate a curve in the road which caused the tractor and trailer to end up on its side and the load of logs to come off the trailer. The logs rolled down the embankment causing damage to a BC Hydro power pole.
The single occupant and driver of the tractor was able to escape the cab with minimal injuries. The driver was taken to hospital by BC Ambulance for medical attention.
Highway 6 was closed for a short period of time until debris could be removed from the roadway by Yellowhead Bridge and Roads Maintenance crews allowing for single-lane, alternating traffic. BC Hydro arrived on scene to deem the power lines safe and the truck and trailer were removed from the roadway then allowing full highway access for traffic.
The incident and cause of the accident are still under investigation.
“We would like to remind motorists that the road conditions are changing quickly at this time of year with freezing and thawing of roads, please take care especially when travelling through curves and shadowed roadways as road conditions can change unexpectedly,” said RCMP Cpl Jaime Moffat.
