New Year’s celebrations are heating up in the Heritage City.

However, once the calendar ushers out 2017 for 2018, the public is asked not to forget to complete the celebrations by participating in the annual Polar Bear Swim at Lakeside Park Beach.

This New Year’s Day, Kootenay Co-op Radio and the Friends of Kootenay Lake Stewardship Society are partnering up again to host the annual event, which is set for Noon Monday, January 1, 2018.

“We will be having hot chocolate, Oso Negro coffee, chili and Hawaiian music on the beach, it’s going to be down-right tropical,” said organizer Stephanie Myers.

“This is a wonderful community event that we are honoured to keep going and improve on every year. It’s a good fit for Kootenay Co-op Radio and Friends of
Kootenay Lake Stewardship Society, throwing a party and protecting the lake at the same time,” Myers adds.

Myers said pledge forms are available at local businesses around town to gather donations to support the important work of Kootenay Co-op Radio and Friends of
Kootenay Lake Stewardship Society.

“We are asking people who plan to brave the icy dip to pick up a pledge form from the radio station and over the holidays gather donations from friends,
family, and co-workers,” Myers said.

“These donations will go directly to KCR and FOKLSS to help them continue to do the important community work they do. It’s a great way to engage with the community, ring in the New Year, and support local organizations.”

Remembers, the horn sounds on the annual Polar Bear Swim at noon Monday January 1st 2018.
