Some local artists looking for support as they enter the big stage of the CBC Searchlight contest.

Earl Hamilton and Bill P. Lynch have entered as singer/songwriters as well as Dave Ronald.

Hamilton, a retired schoolteacher from Nelson, entered the lead single off his current CD, “I’ll Come and Find You”.

Hamilton is enjoying returning back to his musical roots and can often be seen busking in various businesses around the Heritage City.

Lynch, who has played in blues bands in Nelson for the better part of the past 20 years, entered, “Would You Meet Me there?”

Lynch, had always thought of myself as a blues musician until he wrote the songs in my just-released debut album.

“These songs called out for a very different arrangement of instruments and vocalists,” his Searchlight bio said.

“The classical sopranos Noemi Kiss and Allison perform and record in Europe and Vancouver respectively. The cellist Jeff Faragher performs and instructs in Alberta and BC. Yet all three make their homes in this part of BC. So we met!”

Ronald is a singer-songwriter, engineer and producer from the Kootenay area of BC. He started playing guitar in the 80’s when Rock Guitar was king and this is inherent in his sound. Dave is involved in every aspect of the writing process playing guitar/bass/synth/vocals/loops and is involved in all aspects of production.

Another entry with Kootenay roots is Rumour Mill — Aline Daigle and Anna Katarina.

Rumour Mill is a BC band, consisting of these Kootenay girls go way back to preschool, graduating high school together, and both completing the Selkirk College Contemporary Music program.

The contest shines the spotlight on some of the great, undiscovered talent across the country, inviting Canadians to help discover the nation’s next great musical act. This year’s Searchlight contest will open January 23, 2018 at 12:01 AM ET.
