Local Food Producers Celebrate

Local Food Producers continue to collaborate to strengthen the region’s food producing capacity and bring more local food to grocery stores and your plate. The Kootenay and Boundary Food Producers Co-op (KBFPC) will be hosting a delicious celebration for everyone interested in their work on Saturday, November 4th at 5 p.m. at the Taghum Hall.
Alyssa Nebel, the KBFPC Coordinator, invites everyone to “join us for a potluck gathering with terrific local food.
This is an opportunity for the public and interested producers to get to know more about what we do, our new services and our growing network,” Kim Charlesworth, who helped found the Co-op, adds.
“Meet and hear from members about their farms and products, and why they value being a member of the KBFPC.”
“The KBFPC has grown steadily from its inception in March 2015 to its current membership of seventeen. One highlight this year was offering a subsidized labor pool. With the assistance of a Canada Summer Jobs grant, we hired a fabulous local student who worked at four different member farms. Everyone involved was delighted with the outcomes and hopes we can hire two students for a longer period next year.”
Over the winter the Co-op will be developing a handbook to assist Members in making the most of their KBFPC membership, as well as a promotional “Meet our Members” pamphlet. Nebel states “we will also be travelling throughout the region to meet with members and prospective members, and gather information on storage needs. We want input on how best to meet producer’s needs.”
