The Heritage Credit Union recently presented the Slocan Valley Heritage Trail Society (SVHTS) with a cheque for $12K from their Sustainable Community Investment Program. The funds will be used by the Society for upgrading of the Slocan Valley Rail Trail.

“This support is fantastic,” said Helene Dostaler, chairperson of the volunteer SVHTS.

“We have been wanting to replace the aging bollards along the Rail Trail with a newer, safer version and refresh our signage. Part of these funds will now make this work possible. Partnering with Rec. Sites and Trails of BC who are supplying the bollards and concrete blocks, we can now go ahead and improve the safety of the Trail.”

Bollards can be found at road crossings along the Rail Trail and are used to prevent unauthorized vehicular access to the non-motorized Trail.

“The Slocan Valley Rail Trail is a major contributor to the health and well-being of the community and has proven to be a major attraction. The efforts of a dedicated group of volunteers are drawing people to enjoy the beauty of the Slocan Valley.”
