KidSport Nelson recently received an injection of funds compliments of Baker Street Busker Fred Brown.

Brown, who also coaches the L.V. Rogers Junior Boy’s Basketball team, has been busking at the corner of Ward and Baker on-and-off during the summer on behalf of KidSport Nelson.

All the money raised through the KidSportTM Nelson Fund benefits children throughout the Heritage City region by helping to remove the financial obstacles that prevent some children from participating in sport.

  • A child’s participation in sport encourages self-esteem, teamwork, dedication, and personal excellence.
  • This year we were able to increase our annual grant maximum per child to $300.  Each child can submit onr or more applications until they reach the $300 maximum per calendar year
  • In 2015 we supported 130 kids with grants totaling $24,916
  • Since 2007 the KidSportTM Nelson chapter has distributed more than $142,000 to kids from the Nelson region.
  • More than 930 local athletes between the ages of 6 and 18 have had a chance to participate in sports because of support from the KidSportTM Nelson Fund.
  • Originally conceived in British Columbia 1993, KidSportTM chapters have flourished across Canada
  • Nelson is one of 40 community based KidSportTM chapters in BC, raising money locally and supporting athletes locally.
