The 17th Annual Nelson Garden Festival is set to run on Saturday May 12th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in its new location of the 600 block of Baker Street and the 500 block of Hall Street. This move taking place to gain access to the newly renovated Hall Street and its new public amenities.

The West Kootenay EcoSociety will be managing the 2018 Nelson Garden Festival once again this year and Markets & Events Director Jesse R. Woodward is excited to running this event.

“For the last few years GardenFest has had the luck of beautiful sunny weather which has brought out the big crowds and made this amazing community event just that much more wonderful.” Woodward said “I feel that this market perfectly fits into all of the other market organization that I already do and adds another wonderful element of community engagement to the EcoSociety’s roster.”

Woodward is in his seventh year managing the West Kootenay EcoSociety’s Cottonwood Community Market, Nelson Downtown Local Market, and the Friday-night MarketFest events.

This market was started by a three avid local gardeners way back in 2002 with just a few table set out on Hall St. It has now grown into one the yearly market highlights in Nelson with over 50 vendors and community groups on hand with perennials, annuals, vegetable starts, trees and flowers – just about everything a gardener needs to get started or add to an already great gardening endeavor. There is even a giant truck full of beautiful local chicken manure that sells out every year. If you like to garden this market should not be missed.

The Nelson GardenFest is always held on Mother’s Day weekend so if you want to get something lovely and special for mom don’t miss this event. You can also get loads of gardening tips and planting information from the on hand vendors as many of them are long time Kootenay growers and gardeners who know all about how to cultivate in this particular region and weather conditions.

The streets will be closed on the 600 block of Baker St. from 7 a.m. until 4 pm on May 12th.

Late-night Nelsonites are reminded to please move their parked cars from the Garden Festival event site area on Friday night to avoid problems for the vendors who will be setting up early Saturday morning. Parking for the festival is available at the city parkade on Vernon St. or street parking in and around Baker Street area.
