Nelson’s Diana Cole published Sideways: Memoir of a Misfit in 2015, but today, her book is getting a boost as it is being published in audio and braille format by the Washington State Library.

A long-time resident of Nelson, Cole’s deeply personal memoir is about war and displacement, detailing her birth in an Idaho internment camp during WWII and subsequent familial upheaval. This memoir does not shy away from complex topics.

“When you honour your values, your stories ring with an authenticity and originality that cannot be ignored,” says Cole.

Cole started Diaspora Press in 2015 to publish her memoir. Her book is for sale in various stores across BC and online here or at Otter Books, Coles at Chahko Mika Mall, Nelson Museum and Art Gallery, Greenwood Museum and VisitorCentre, New Denver’s Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre and Raven’s Nest, Kaslo’s Eurythmy Studio & Bookstore, Castlegar’s Doukhobor Discovery Centre, and Ainsworth Hot Springs Gift Store.
