Want to know the inner workings of a Regional District of Central Kootenay volunteer Fire Department?

The North Shore Fire Department (NSFD) is kicking open its doors to invite the public to attend an open house at the fire hall on Saturday, September 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The fire hall is located at 2703 Greenwood Road, Nelson and the free event will include refreshments, activities and tours of the fire hall.

“We wanted to give members of the public a chance to tour the fire hall, meet the firefighters, and learn more about the equipment we use to help protect our neighbourhood—plus, it will be a lot of fun!” said Jay Marshall, NSFD Deputy Fire Chief.

“Bring the whole family and drop by for a free hotdog and some activities for the kids, including the chance to get up close and explore the fire trucks.”

Everyone is invited to attend the open house.

“We look forward to this opportunity to get to know the people on the North Shore even better,” continued Deputy Chief Marshall.

The NSFD is one of the fire departments operated by the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK). The RDCK coordinates fire protection with 18 separate services. Of these services, six are contracts with municipal fire departments and one is with a neighboring Regional District. The remaining 12 fire services have 18 fire halls. All RDCK fire departments are operated on a volunteer basis, 24-hours a day, 365-days a year.
